Lazio 1-4 Bayern: Bavarians cruise to an easy win thanks to sloppy defending from the hosts

Robert Lewandowski-Bayern Munich

Bayern Munich picked up a comprehensive 4-1 win over Lazio in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League knockouts earlier tonight.

The German side were the better team heading into the game and they were in cruise control right from the start.

Robert Lewandowski scored the opening goal of the game in the 9th minute and the German outfit doubled their advantage on the 24th minute through youngster Jamal Musiala.

Leroy Sane added the third goal of the game three minutes from half time and things went from bad to worse for Lazio when Francesco Acerbi scored an own goal in the 47th minute.

Although Joaquin Correa scored a consolation goal for the hosts in the 49th minute, it was too little too late for the Italian side.

It is fair to assume that Lazio are now out of the tie barring a miraculous comeback.

Bayern manage to win the Champions League last season and they will be hoping to do so once again.

Their performance today showed that they are certainly one of the frontrunners to win the competition.

Lazio will be disappointed with their defensive performance tonight and two of the four goals they conceded were from individual errors.

They will be hoping to salvage some pride in the second leg of the stay and it will be interesting to see if the players can produce a strong reaction.
