Rangers

Rangers will welcome look to win their first UCL game of the season when they host Liverpool at the Ibrox Stadium this Wednesday.

The Scottish side have not been able to transfer their domestic form to the international stage this season, where they are yet to secure a single point or score a goal after losing three games in a row.

Giovanni Van Bronckorst’s side fell to a 2-0 loss at Anfield last week Tuesday, with goals from Alexander Trent Arnold and Mohamed Salah handing Jurgen Klopp’s side all three points, ultimately sending the Scottish side into fourth place.

But the hosts ran riot when they returned to domestic action against St Mirren last weekend. Goals from James Tavernier, Fashion Sakala and a brace from Antonio Colak handed Rangers all three points as they went up into second place in the Scottish Premiership, two points behind League leaders Celtic.

With zero points from their first three games, Rangers are at risk of missing out on all tiers of the UEFA competitions, unless there is an upturn in form and a return leg win against a struggling Liverpool side may be the catalyst needed to keep their hopes of qualification alive.

However, the Ibrox side will now realistically have their sights set on making it into third place to stand a chance of making it into the Europa League.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst will be hoping to see his side bring their A-game when they welcome Liverpool as they look to secure their first point in the Champions League.

Possible Rangers starting line-up

Injured: Tom Lawrence, John Souttar, Ianis Hagi, Filip Helander, Nnamdi Ofoborh

Doubtful: Kemar Roofe

Liverpool

Liverpool have seen their huge success in recent years come under huge threat this season, with some really poor performances and question marks hanging over the heads of some star players.

The likes of Virgil van Dijk, Mohamed Salah and Alexander Arnold have come under fire in recent matches. However, the latter did score a beautiful free kick against Rangers at Anfield last week, which capped off a good all-round performance from the Englishman and Liverpool in general.

Amid their worst start to the season in the Premier League since the Jurgen Klopp era, Liverpool have managed to keep themselves afloat in the Champions League, with two wins in their first three games keeping them in second place behind Napoli.

Liverpool come into this game off the back of a 3-2 loss to Arsenal in the Premier League last Sunday, and the Reds will now look to bounce back from their defeat to Mikel Arteta’s side with yet another win against Rangers.

The loss against Arsenal was made worse by a suspected injury to Colombian attacker Luis Díaz, who was replaced by Roberto Firmino. Jurgen Klopp will be somewhat satisfied with the news coming from the club medicals, with the likes of Diogo Jota, Ibrahima Konate, Thiago Alcantara and Jordan Henderson all back and fit after missing from action earlier in the season.

Possible Liverpool starting line-up

Alisson Becker; Joe Gomez, Ibrahima Konate, Virgil van Dijk, Kosta Tsimikas; Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, Thiago Alcantara; Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino, Diogo Jota.

Injured: Arthur Melo, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Andrew Robertson

Doubtful: Trent Alexander-Arnold, Luis Diaz

Suspended: None
