Sevilla 2-3 Dortmund: Haaland brace helps Dortmund with an important away win

Erling Haaland-Borussia Dortmund

Dortmund edge out Sevilla in the round of 16 away leg, with Haaland chipping in with a brace.

Borussia Dortmund have taken a big step towards the last eight of the Champions League after defeating Sevilla 3-2 away in the round of 16.

Suso put the visitors ahead with a deflected strike from outside the box before Mahmoud Dahoud cancelled it with a sublime goal. The 25-year-old fired in a thunderous strike from outside the box, leaving no chance for Sevilla goalkeeper Bono.

Erling Haaland made it 2-1 around the half-hour mark after what turned out to be a sumptuous goal, with the Norwegian making a long run before combining with Jadon Sancho to find the back of the net. Haaland tripled the lead for Dortmund right before the half-time and also completed his double.

Sevilla responded in the eleventh hour after Luuk de Jong latched on to the cross from Oscar Rodriguez. Dortmund picked up an important win and most importantly, they would be happy with the away goals on the aggregate.

As predicted before, Sevilla had a tough time in dealing with star forwards like Haaland and Sancho even though they have been excellent in La Liga lately and carries the best central defensive duo in Jules Kounde and Diego Carlos.

The duo had no clue when Haaland stormed past them to score his first goal, and their reaction summed it up all.

Edin Terzic’s first game in the Champions League turned out to be victorious, but it remains to be seen whether the interim manager would capitalise on it.
