Dinamo Zagreb 3-0 Tottenham: Orsic’s stunning hat-trick knocks Spurs out of Europa League

Mislav Orsic single-handedly helped Zagreb complete an incredible turnaround.

Dinamo Zagreb have produced a stunning turnaround against Tottenham Hotspur after beating them 3-0 in the second leg of the round of 16 of UEFA Europa League, thanks to an incredible hat-trick from Mislav Orsic.

The Croatian side progressed to the next round with an aggregate score of 3-2.

Spurs, who won the first leg 2-0, had a clear advantage since Dinamo Zagreb played a goalless first half.

It all started with a thunderous strike from Orsic to break the deadlock around the hour mark before he doubled the lead in the 83rd minute with a similar strike, thus levelling the aggregate score.

Sixteen minutes into the extra-time, the Croatian outfit stunned Jose Mourinho’s side after Orsic took on around four defenders before beating Hugo Lloris to complete his hat-trick.

The 28-year-old produced one of the best individual displays of Europa League this season and on a high note, he helped his side qualify for the last eight.

The Croatian club has enjoyed a sheer change in fortune under their new manager Dario Keznar, who took over on Monday from Zoran Mamic.

On the other hand, the spotlight would be certainly on the North Londoners for slipping up a well-established lead. Furthermore, the attackers Harry Kane and Gareth Bale squandered a couple of good chances in the final quarter of the game. It was quite disappointing to see the star duo being wasteful with their chances.

Mourinho’s European dreams ended short and their chances for the Champions League football next season are also looking bleak as they currently sit eighth in the Premier League table.
