Arsenal will travel to Eindhoven this Thursday to face PSV in the fifth round of the 2022/23 Europa League group-stage games.

Venue: Philips Stadion (Eindhoven)

Key Statistics

PSV Eindhoven have scored 19 times across their last six games (W4, L2).

They have a perfectly split record across 18 home encounters with PL opponents (W6, D6, L6).

The hosts have won their last four home games and are unbeaten in their last six at home (W5, D1).

None of the last ten visiting sides to Eindhoven in the UEL proper could keep PSV from scoring (W5, D3, L2).

Arsenal are unbeaten in their last nine games in all competitions (W8, D1).

They have won each of their last four UEL group games this season.

The Gunners are unbeaten in all but one of their last 14 UEL away group games (W11, D2).

They are also unbeaten in six of their eight away games in the Netherlands (W3, D3, L2).

PSV

PSV Eindhoven will look to take one step closer to qualifying for the next round of the Europa League when they host Arsenal on Thursday.

Both sides met for the first time in this season’s UEL last week and Arsenal won the game 1-0 to end the hosts’ unbeaten start to the Europa League campaign. Despite the loss, PSV will feel proud of their performance as it took only a special goal by Granit Xhaka to break them down at the Emirates Stadium last Thursday.

As they welcome the Gunners to Philips Stadion, they will be looking to put on a good show and secure all three points that will put them in a good place for qualification ahead of their visit to Bodø/Glimt next week.

However, the result they had over the weekend doesn’t inspire much confidence as they were beaten 4-2 by Groningen. However, they will fancy their chances of getting a good result here given that they have won each of their last four games in all competitions.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s men have scored 19 times across their last six games (W4, L2), including a 5-0 Group A triumph over Zürich in their last UEL home game. If they can keep that scoring average, they will be able to record just their second win over Arsenal in seven tries.

Possible PSV starting line-up

Walter Benitez; Phillipp Mwene, Andre Ramalho Silva, Armando Obispo, Philipp Max; Ibrahima Sangare, Erick Gutierrez; Joey Veerman, Xavi Simons, Cody Gakpo, Guus Til.

Injured: Yorbe Vertessen, Ismael Saibari, Olivier Boscagli, Kjell Peersman

Doubtful: Jamal Gonzaga

Suspended: None

Arsenal

Arsenal will look to get back to winning ways when they travel to the Netherlands on Thursday.

The Gunners’ eight-game-winning run was ended over the weekend when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Southampton. The result reduced their lead at the top of the PL table to two points.

However, in the Europa League, they are top of their group, having won all four of their opening group games while scoring seven goals and conceding just once.

Having already secured second place in this group, Mikel Arteta’s side just need to avoid defeat here to secure the top spot and progress to the knockout stage.

Confidence should be high in securing top-spot with a game to spare, given that the Gunners are unbeaten in all but one of their UEL away group games (W11, D2), while they’re also unbeaten in six of their eight away games in the Netherlands (W3, D3, L2).

Possible Arsenal starting line-up

Aaron Ramsdale; Takehiro Tomiyasu, Ben White, Gabriel, Kieran Tierney; Granit Xhaka, Albert-Sambi Lokonga; Bukayo Saka, Patrick Vieira, Gabriel Martinelli; Eddie Nketiah.

Injured: Emile Smith Rowe, Mohamed Elneny

Doubtful: Oleksander Zinchenko

Suspended: None
