Why has Pochettino chosen PSG as his next destination?

Newcastle to appoint Mauricio Pochettino as new Manager

The Argentine has returned to managerial set-up after a year hiatus.

Mauricio Pochettino has been appointed as the new manager of PSG following the sacking of Thomas Tuchel on Christmas eve.

While strong speculations were growing on for a while, Les Parisiens have now confirmed that the Argentine will be the new manager in charge for the next 18 months, and can be for another additional year as per the contract.

Pochettino will walk into Parc Des Princes, where he once played as a player for around two years, after a year-long sabbatical.

The former Spurs boss was linked with a host of top clubs – Barcelona, Real Madrid and Manchester United and many more – but he has eventually chosen the French Champions and here it is why.

Tuchel’s sacking has not much to do with his records and stats than his troubled relationship with PSG’s hierarchy. Furthermore, there were reports which stated that the players often found the German’s tactics sceptical.

Pochettino, who hasn’t managed a club of PSG’s size before will embrace this endeavour as his next big challenge. Players like Neymar and Mbappe have always been dogmatic and continue to be such influential figures but it is now up to the Argentine to succeed.

Having managed mostly the sub-top clubs, where he was often restricted financially, the Argentine boss will now be given the luxury in the transfer market.

Most importantly, the former Espanyol gaffer is said to have worked on various aspects – how to manage the likes of star players, big game tactics and lent advice to the young coaches – during the hiatus and it makes him one of the top managers to watch out for in 2021.

No wonder if Pochettino manages to sign Barcelona ace and his compatriot Lionel Messi, whose contract expires in the summer.
