Gibraltar 0-7 Netherlands: Depay, Wijnaldum on target as De Boer’s men crush the hosts

Memphis Depay-Netherlands

The Netherlands picked up a crushing 7-0 win over Gibraltar in the World Cup qualifiers earlier tonight.

The Dutch managed to bounce back strongly from their defeat against Turkey with a win over Latvia last time out and they have now followed it up with another outstanding performance, De Boer can be proud of.

The Netherlands manager demanded a more clinical performance after the win of Latvia and his players delivered tonight.

Goals from BerghuisDepayWijnaldum, Malen, Luuk De Jong and Van de Beek wrapped up the three points for the Dutch.

The Netherlands manager stuck to the bones of the squad that beat Latvia last week and the visitors dominated the contest from start to finish. Despite losing Daley Blind to injury early on in the second half, the visitors continued to pressurize the opposition.

The likes of Wijnaldum, De Jong and Klaassen provided excellent balance at the middle of the park combining control with creativity. Depay and De Jong carried on from where they left off in the previous outing and added to their goal tallies.

Not only did the starters made the most of the opportunity given to them by De Boer, but the substitutes also made their mark tonight.

Midfielder Donny Van de Beek has had a rough time with his club Manchester United and his game time has been cut short. He started on the bench tonight against Gibraltar but scored with a fine effort when he was brought on later in the game.

Van de Beek will be hoping his goalscoring cameo can help him force his way into Solskjaer’s plans for the upcoming run in.

The highly-rated Donyell Malen continued his impressive season with a goal for his country. His PSV performances have attracted the interest of the European elite this season and his cameos for his nation will only add to that reputation.

The win tonight takes the Netherlands up to second in Group G, with six points from three matches.
