Liverpool were held to a 0-0 draw at Everton yesterday but the worrying news for the fans is that James Milner and Joel Matip injured themselves.
Milner, who was deployed as a makeshift left back for the night pulled up with a hamstring injury in the first half and Joel Matip hurt himself in the second half.
It will be interesting to see when the two players return to action for the Reds.
Liverpool need depth in their squad and although the title is in their grasp, they will be hoping to finish the season strongly.
Milner and Matip are key players for Jurgen Klopp’s side and the German manager will not want to lose them for long.
Speaking to the club’s official website, Klopp has revealed that it is difficult to put a timeframe on the duo’ return this season.
However, he is hoping that it is nothing serious.
He said: “Millie felt a hamstring a little bit, but we had this in the past. Millie is not often injured and hopefully it is not serious. He is smart enough to show up in the moment when he feels it, so hopefully it was the right moment. Maybe not Wednesday [he will be available for], but after that I would hope for. Joel was unlucky and we had to make a quick decision. It was a situation with Richarlison and he bent or stretched or his big toe.”
Meanwhile, Arsenal have been dealt a massive injury blow as well.
First choice keeper Bernd Leno landed awkwardly during the club’s 2-1 defeat to Brighton and he could be ruled out for a year. He had to be stretchered off the field.
Leno is one of the few players at Arsenal who has been consistent. Losing him would be a devastating blow to their European dreams.
Arsenal are unlikely to make it to the top four, but they could still qualify for the Europa League. Losing Leno will only weaken their squad and lessen their chances of finish the season strongly.
As per reports, the German might have damaged his cruciate ligaments and he will need 12 months to recover.
It will be interesting to see how this affects Arsenal’s transfer plans. If the injury is serious, they will have to invest in another quality keeper this summer.
