AC Milan enjoyed a memorable weekend as they defeated title-rivals Inter Milan in the Milan derby on Saturday.
A double from Olivier Giroud in the space of three minutes cancelled out Ivan Perisic’s opener for Inter and ensured that AC Milan reduced Inter’s lead at the top of the table to one point.
They will now look to build on that positive result by beating another rival, Lazio, in the Coppa Italia.
The hosts qualified for this round of the competition by beating Genoa last month. In a hard-fought game at the San Siro, Genoa took the lead through Leo Ostigard in the 17th minute. But Milan were spared by Olivier Giroud, who equalised in the 74th minute to take the game to extra time.
After the restart, the hosts took control of the match, with Portuguese striker Rafael Leao scoring in the 102nd minute before Alexis Saelemaekers sealed the win with a goal in the 112th minute.
Stefano Pioli’s side will now hope that their hard work in that game sees them through to the next round with another win here.

Second-half goals from Sergej Milinkovic-Savic, Ciro Immobile, and an own goal from Cristiano Biraghi sealed the win for Maurizio Sarri’s side and kept their top-six bid alive.
Like their hosts, they needed extra time to see off Udinese to book their place in the next round of this tournament. After a goalless draw in normal time, Ciro Immobile won the game for the visitors with a well-taken goal in the 106th minute.
