Bayer Leverkusen picked up a 3-1 win over Cologne in the Rhine Derby. 

Sven Bender scored the opening goal of the game for the hosts on the 7th minute and Kai Hvertz added a second-half an hour later.

The visitors came back into the game in the second half with a 58th-minute header from Sebastiaan Bornauw but Moussa Diaby finished the game off with a goal for Leverkusen seven minutes from time. 

Leverkusen will be delighted with their performance here and it leaves them closer to Champions League qualification.

Peter Bosz’s side are now back in the top four after having fallen behind. It will be interesting to see if they can qualify for next season’s Champions League now.

Furthermore, Kai Havertz continued to demonstrate why the top clubs in Europe are after him. The highly talented attacker put on a complete display and Leverkusen’s attack went through him. 

Meanwhile, the defeat comes as a massive blow for Cologne who are now battling for their survival in the Bundesliga. 

It will be interesting to see if they can beat the drop this season.
