RB Leipzig 0-0 Köln: Leipzig held to a draw by Köln

Julian Nagelsmann-RB Leipzig

Red Bull Leipzig were held to a draw by FC Köln on Saturday afternoon as they were unable to find a way past their visitors despite hitting six shots on target.

The hosts, as expected, enjoyed the lion-share of the possession but could not make their dominance count as FC Kölnn held on to a point and climb off the relegation zone.

Julian Nagelsmann’s side came out flying and scored in the third minute through Amadou Haidara, only for VAR to rule the goal out as offside.

The hosts could have been ahead in the 13th minute, but Horn was able to save comfortably from Willi Orban’s close-range shot from an Amadou Haidara’s knockdown. They came again through Angelino and Poulson in the first half, but could not find a way through the visitor’s back line.

Koln started the second period with greater intent and made their first attempt at goal in the 62nd minute through Ondrej Duda, who hit a 40-yard centre that Peter Gulasci saved comfortably.

With time running out, Julian Nagelsmann turned to Alexander Sorloth in place of Amadou Haidara to produce some firepower up front. But the Norwegian’s introduction was unable to give Leipzig the goal they desperately desired.

The result was enough to take them to second place, pending the result from top of the table clash between Leverkusen and Bayern Munich.

RB Leipzig are back in action on January 02 against Stuttgart while Koln host Augsburg the same day.
