Luis Suarez tests COVID positive ahead of Barcelona clash

Luis Suarez-Atletico Madrid

The Uruguayan striker is set to miss the reunion with his former club.

Atletico Madrid striker Luis Suarez has been tested positive for Coronavius on the international break, confirmed by Uruguayan national team.

Having featured in the 3-0 win against Colombia – also scored a goal, the 33-year-old will miss the big World Cup Qualifier game against Brazil.

In addition, Suarez would miss the weekend’s La Liga clash against his former club.

It would be a blow for Atletico as Suarez have been off to a great start this season, scoring 5 goals including a double on his debut.

Suarez has recently opened up about the departure from Barcelona, stating it was a painful one.

“I was sad and hurt by the way I left, which I have already said. I feel proud. When I wasn’t wanted, I found somewhere I was. I’ve found happiness and I’m enjoying this period.”

No, there was a tactical plan, or whatever you want to call it. I had to accept it because they didn’t need me and everyone can draw their own conclusions.

“I have to live my life at Atleti, but I feel bad that my friends are having problems. But it’s a run, the goals will come fast.”

The Uruguayan left the Nou Camp this summer after he was deemed surplus to requirements by new manager Ronald Koeman.

Nonetheless, Atletico have Joao Felix, who has enjoyed his best start yet this season, currently second in La Liga’s scoring charts.

Los Rojiblancos couldn’t have asked for a better start as they are yet to face a defeat after seven games.
