Real Madrid’s Luka Modric will sign a contract extension at the Spanish La Liga club after landing his fifth Champions League crown, according to GOAL.
The veteran midfielder has spent nine seasons in Spain to date and followed up Supercopa de Espana and La Liga successes this season by securing his fifth Champions League title on Saturday night against Liverpool.
According to Goal, Modric is now ready to re-affirm his commitment to Madrid after helping them to their 14th European Cup title.
The Croatian international is due to become a free agent on June 30, but Madrid are prepared to hand him fresh terms that will see him remain at Santiago Bernabeu until the end of the 2022-23 season.
Despite being 36-year-old, he remains crucial to Real Madrid and his quality has convinced the board to retain his services after another season. He finished the 2021/22 campaign with three goals and 12 assists in 45 appearances across all competitions.
According to the same report in GOAL, Madrid will also consider extending Modric’s contract through to 2024 if he can maintain the same exceptional standards next term.
The Balon D’or winner has made 462 appearances for Madrid since he arrived from Tottenham in 2012, winning 19 major trophies.
