Atletico Madrid were held to a 3-3 draw against Valencia at Mestalla, with the home side producing an incredible comeback.

The game looked beyond Valencia’s reach after Atletico went up 3-1 at the hour mark after goals from Luis Suarez, Antoine Griezmann and Sime Vrsaljko.

However, Los Che produced a remarkable turnaround after young striker Hugo Duro scored a double in injury time to salvage a point.

Diego Simeone’s men were left stunned with the late drama and they also failed to close the gap with second-place Real Sociedad.

Hugo Duro’s heroics earn a point for Valencia

Valencia’s form has been fluctuating in La Liga this season and after trailing by two goals to the defending champions, their chances looked bleak. Hugo Duro rose to the occasion by scoring a sensational brace in injury time to help Los Che pick up an important point, which saw them move to 10th place in the table. The Spanish striker, who is on loan from Getafe, has been impressive this season, garnering 4 goals in 10 league games so far. The 21-year-old was introduced on the pitch today with less than five minutes left in the normal time. However, he grabbed the headlines by scoring a brace in added time.

Atletico Madrid take a leaf out of Barcelona’s book

Barcelona suffered a 3-3 draw against Celta Vigo on Saturday despite going 3-0 up in the first half. Today, Atletico failed to differ as they conceded late goals to allow Valencia to share the spoils. The defending champions were poised for a comprehensive win after brilliant goals from Suarez and Griezmann but Valencia had other ideas. Diego Simeone’s men were coming off a disappointing defeat to Liverpool in the Champions League and they failed to get the momentum against Valencia today. The draw leaves Atletico at fourth in the league table with 23 points, a point behind Sevilla, who also have a game left in hand.
