Zinedine Zidane confident of Sergio Ramos extending his contract

Sergio Ramos-Real Madrid

The Frenchman believes Ramos will continue with his long-time club beyond next summer.

Zinedine Zidane is confident on Sergio Ramos extending his contract with Real Madrid.

Ramos scored his 100th goal for Los Blancos in the 3-2 win against Inter Milan in the Champions League.

There have been doubts of late over his future at Santiago Bernabeu as his contract expires next summer.

However, Zidane has cleared the air by claiming that Ramos would likely sign a new contract extension.

Speaking after the win against Inter, Zidane heaped praises on the Spanish defender while stating the desire to want him at the club forever.

Zidane said,

‘As always, he is our captain, our leader.’

‘We want him here forever, it is what he is doing, showing that he always wants to. I have no doubt that he will stay and that it will continue to make history.’

Ramos has always been an integral part of Madrid’s history, helping them win a handful of trophies during his reign, most recently the La Liga title.

The 33-year-old also continues to offer his services for the Spanish national team, with whom he has made a record 175 appearances.

Besides his world-class defensive qualities, Ramos has also developed the penchant for scoring goals as he is Madrid’s go-to penalty taker.

The game against Inter was another instance where his goalscoring abilities were on display as he scored a soaring header from a corner kick to put his side 2-0 up.

It will be interesting to see whether Ramos would opt to stay forever as a Galactico or would seek a new destination as Juventus and PSG are said to be keeping tabs on him.
