PSG

Paris Saint-Germain will look to bounce back from a rare loss in Ligue 1 when they host Angers this Wednesday.

Christophe Galtier’s men suffered their first season’s defeat last weekend as they were beaten 3-1 away from home by the high-flying Lens. The Parisians, who entered the game seven points clear at the top, were undone by a brilliant Lens side who were cheered in by a raucous Stade Bollaert-Delelis.

Goals from Przemysław Frankowski, Loïs Openda and Alexis Claude-Maurice gave Lens all three points on the night and ended PSG’s run of a run of 23 games without defeat this season. It also ended a run of 25 games unbeaten in Ligue 1, proving that they will have to fight to retain their title this season.

The absence of Lionel Messi remains to be felt, but the Argentina international and World Cup winner is back in team training and is expected to participate at some point in this game. But fellow World Cup finalist Kylian Mbappe will be unavailable as he has been granted some time to rest following a breathless tournament in Qatar.

Even in his absence, the hosts will fancy their chances of winning this, given their home form and record against their opponents, Angers.

Possible PSG starting line-up

Gianluigi Donnarumma, Nordi Mukiele, Marquinhos, Sergio Ramos, Juan Bernat, Danilo Pereira, Fabian Ruiz, Marco Verratti, Lionel Messi, Xavi Simmons, Neymar Jr..

Injured: Renato Sanches, Nuno Mendes, Presnel Kimpembe

Doubtful: None

Suspended: Achraf Hakimi

Angers

If there is any team Angers wouldn’t want to face now, it has to be PSG.

The visitors, who have been winless since 1993 against the hosts, are also in sorry form domestically.

They have won just two league games in 17 outings this year (D2, L13) and are, as a result, sitting at the foot of the table, seven points behind safety almost halfway into the season.

They come into this game on a nine-game losing run in the league, with their only respite since mid-October, a penalty shootout win over Strasbourg in the Coupe de France last weekend.

With the interim manager, Abdel Bouhazama, now at the club following his appointment last Thursday, the Angevin club will be hoping things get better. But it will take a big miracle for the Morrocan to break his side’s poor record against PSG, especially now he will be without at least four of his players.

Possible Angers starting line-up

Paul Bernardoni, Yan Valery, Cédric Hountondji, Miha Blazic, Souleyman Doumbia, Batista Mendy, Himad Abdelli, Farid El Melali, Adrien Hunou, Pierrick Capelle, Abdallah Sima.

Injured: Ali Kalia, Yahia Fofana, Ibadhim Amadou, Ulrick Eneme-Ella

Doubtful: None

Suspended: None
