Liverpool crashed out of the Carabao Cup after a penalty shootout defeat against Arsenal earlier today at Anfield.

The two teams played out a goalless draw in normal time and then Arsenal did well to book their place in the quarterfinals of the competition by winning on penalties.

Both teams rested several key players for the game and they will be relatively pleased with how the fringe players stepped up and performed today.

Arsenal goalkeeper Bernd Leno put on a splendid display for the away side and he was instrumental to the Gunners’ victory. Leno saved spot kicks from Divock Origi and Harry Wilson to won the match against Premier League champions. B

Previously Adrian saved Arsenal’s third spot-kick from Mohamed Elneny to tilt the balance for the Reds.

The Reds had the chances to win the game in normal time but the German keeper did well to keep his side in the game with some fantastic saves.

Arteta has now won three of his last four meetings with Jurgen Klopp and the Spaniard will be quite pleased with his team’s performance today.

Arsenal will now face Manchester City in the next round of the competition and it will be interesting to see if they can go all the way and win the League Cup this year.

The Gunners managed to win the FA Cup and the Community Shield recently.

As for Liverpool, they have never been at their best in the domestic cup competitions ever since Klopp came into the club and they will be focused on continuing their impressive start to the League season against Aston Villa this weekend.

The Reds have won their first three games and they will be hoping to make it four in a row.
