Former Chelsea striker Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has claimed that Jose Mourinho is making an example out of the Tottenham midfielder Dele Alli.

The 24 year old England international has fallen down the pecking order at Tottenham and he has been starved of regular first team football since the start of the season.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink claims that he received similar treatment from Jose Mourinho when he was in charge of Chelsea back in 2004.

The Dutchman was a reputed goal scorer back then but Jose Mourinho was not afraid of dropping him and bringing in key players like Didier Drogba and Mateja Kezman.

Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink believes that Jose Mourinho is not afraid of letting the big players leave and that is his style of management and he cannot be criticised for that.

He said: “Mourinho wanted to use me as an example, that’s how he managed. He wanted to show that he could let big players go. I was still top scorer, even though two really good strikers had signed that season.

“Mourinho wanted to show who was boss, and I was the one he used. Yes, Chelsea then won the league, but I could have added to the team that year.

“But Mourinho has always done that. He’s doing it now with Dele Alli at Spurs. That’s how he manages, that’s how he gets success, you can’t fault him.”

The Portuguese manager is a serial winner and he has proven that he can win trophies with his methods consistently.

Tottenham have made it to the finals of the Carabao Cup this season and it will be interesting to see if Jose Mourinho can land his first piece of silverware with the London club this season.

Meanwhile, Dele Alli has been linked with a move away from Tottenham and it is believed that Mauricio Pochettino wants a reunion with him at Paris Saint-Germain.

Tottenham are unlikely to let the midfielder leave this month because of the injuries to Giovani lo Celso, Erik Lamela and Gareth Bale.

However, a summer move could definitely be on the cards if things do not change between now and the end of the season.

A player of Dele Alli’s calibre needs to play regularly and it remains to be seen if he can convince Jose Mourinho that he is worthy of the starting berth.
