AS Roma

AS Roma will look to make it four wins in four competitive games when they face fierce city rivals Lazio on Sunday.

The hosts booked their place in the next round of the Europa League after coming from behind to beat Ludogorets last time out.

Jose Mourinho’s side put in a poor first-half display against the Bulgarian side and paid for their troubles when Jhonatan Rick put Ludogorets in front in the 41st minute of the game. But the hosts came into the second half in better shape after a flurry of changes by Jose Mourinho.

They finally found their equaliser in the 54 minutes as Lorenzo Pellegrini converted from the spot. The Italian midfielder added another nine minutes later with yet another penalty. Nicolo Zaniolo completed the comeback with a goal in the 85th minute.

However, the win was not enough to secure a direct passage into the knockout rounds of the competition, and the Giallorossi will now have to book a place in the knockout rounds through the playoffs.

In the league, Roma secured a 1-3 win over Verona in their last outing, with goals from Nicolo Zaniolo, Cristian Volpato and Stephan El Shaarawy giving Jose Mourinho’s side a comeback victory.

The win saw AS Roma leapfrog Lazio into the fourth position, but with one point separating them, Jose Mourinho will be keen to see his side further move away from Maurizio Sarri’s side by taking all three points when they welcome them to the Stadio Olimpico.

Possible AS Roma starting line-up

Rui Patricio; Gianluca Mancini, Chris Smalling, Roger Ibanez; Rick Karsdorp, Nicola Zalewski, Bryan Cristante, Mohamed Mady Camara, Lorenzo Pellegrini; Nicolo Zaniolo, Tammy Abraham.

Injured: Paulo Dybala, Ebrima Darboe, Leonardo Spinazzola, Georginio Wijnaldum

Lazio

Lazio will look to bounce back immediately from their shock defeat to Sportiva Salernitana in the Italian Serie A last weekend.

I Biancocelesti came into the game against Sportiva Salernitana on an eight-game unbeaten run and took a lead through Mattia Zaccagni in the 41st minute. However, a quick equaliser from Antonio Candreva gave Davide Nicola’s side the impetus they needed to go for the win, and they got their lead when Federico Fazio put them in front in the 68th minute. Boulaye Dia added gloss to a fine team display by adding a third in the 76th minute.

The loss saw Lazio dumped out of the top four, much to the chagrin of Maurizio Sarri. The Italian coach will therefore be keen to see his side make a quick return to the top four by taking all three points from the team directly above them.

However, the Italian coach will be greatly worried after seeing his side succumb to a second defeat in a row by losing to Feyenoord in the Europa League, which ultimately ended their Europa League campaign.

Lazio have been in fine form in the Italian Serie A this season, and despite their back-to-back defeats, the Biancocelesti come into this encounter as the better team on paper and will fancy their chances of getting all three points against Jose Mourinho’s side.

Possible Lazio starting line-up

Ivan Provedel; Manuel Lazzari, Nicolo Casale, Alessio Romagnoli, Adam Marusic; Matias Vecino, Danilo Cataldi, Luis Alberto; Pedro Rodriguez, Felipe Anderson, Mattia Zaccagni.

Injured: Ciro Immobile

Doubtful: None

Suspended: Stevan Milinkovic-Savic
