Midtjylland 1-1 Liverpool: Reds held for a draw despite first-minute Salah goal

Five talking points from Liverpool's narrow win over Leeds United

Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw against FC Midtjylland in the Champions League earlier tonight.

Mohamed Salah capitalised on a poor back pass to give the Reds their lead one minute into the game and it seemed like Liverpool would run away with the game after that.

However, Midtjylland fought back and got themselves on the score sheet in the second half when Alexander Scholz converted from the penalty spot on the 62nd minute.

Scholz could have easily won the game for his side but his second goal was ruled out by VAR because of a marginal offside.

Liverpool had a goal disallowed towards the end of the game as well when Takumi Minamino scored. VAR ruled that the ball had hit Sadio Mane on the arm before  Minamino’s finish.

Jurgen Klopp fielded a heavily rotated side after having secured qualification to the knockout rounds last week and Liverpool handed youngsters like Leighton Clarkson and Billy Koumetio their Champions League debuts.

Young goalkeeper Kelleher impressed once again and Klopp will be reasonably pleased with his team’s performance here.

Midtjylland will believe that they could have won the game tonight but a draw is probably a fair result in the end.

Liverpool managed to rest key players like Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino, Jordan Henderson, Andy Robertson, Joel Matip and Gini Wijnaldum ahead of this weekend and Klopp will be hoping to bounce back to winning ways when his side takes on Fulham on Sunday.
