Senegal

Senegal will look to win their first Africa Cup of Nations title when they face off with continental heavyweights Egypt in Yaounde on Sunday.

The West African side will be desperate to go one step farther than they did in the last edition when they lost in the final to Algeria

They qualified for this round by defeating Burkina Faso 3-1 in the previous round, thanks to goals from Abdou Diallo, Ahmadou Dieng and Sadio Mane

The ‘Lions of Teranga’ have won each of their last three games by a margin of two or more goals and will fancy their chances of scoring against Egypt. In defence, they have conceded just two goals in this tournament.

After the heartbreak of 2019, they will go into this game desperate yet confident of ending their AFCON trophy drought.

Egypt

Egypt will look to win their record eight AFCON title when they take on Senegal on Sunday.

‘The Pharaohs’ needed penalties to book their place in this round, defeating hosts Cameroon, thanks to the heroics of veteran goalkeeper Gabaski. The 33-year-old Zamalek goalie was the man-of-the-match as he saved three penalties.

With each of their last three games going into extra time, Egypt have the experience of game management. They will hope that their game management experience serves them well in this game against Africa’s top-rated team.

They will, however, have to do so without their coach Carlos Queiroz, who was sent off in the game against Cameroon.

Should Egypt win this, they will extend their already remarkable AFCON record and establish themselves as the kings of African football.
