The Scottish midfielder put on an impressive display against Three Lions in Euro 2020

Portuguese manager Jose Mourinho has heaped praises on Scotland midfielder Billy Gilmour following his sensational display against England in Euro 2020.

The Chelsea youngster turned the heads of many after running the show in the midfield, eventually helping his side pick up a 1-1 draw against Three Lions.

His impressive display has led to the plaudits from AS Roma’s new manager Mourinho.

Mourinho said: “The kid Gilmour in midfield, he made the difference.

He was fantastic. He was always moving, always showing, he wanted the ball, he was turning under pressure. He linked the game much, much better.”

The former Spurs boss went on to praise the Scots for holding out strong-looking Gareth Southgate’s side.

“Steve Clarke organised the game tactically very well, but more importantly than that was the spirit.

They didn’t come for a football match; it was clearly Steve and his staff’s job. They united the team, and they were ready to fight.”

Despite hardly making an appearance for the Blues in the 20/21 season, Gilmour has managed to become a key cog in Steve Clarke’s midfield alongside Scott McTominay and John McGinn.

Scotland were off to a disappointing start to the Euro 2020 after succumbing to a defeat against the Czech Republic. But they must have restored their confidence after drawing against old foes, England.

They will be playing Croatia in their final group stage game, and a win would take Clarke’s side closer to the round of 16 qualifications.
