Portugal international and former Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo has reportedly agreed to a two and half year contract with Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr that will make him the highest-paid athlete in the World.
According to Spanish outlet Marca via GOAL, Ronaldo will earn an eye-watering €200m per season when he makes the move to Saudi Arabia at the end of the year.
Ronaldo became available as a free agent last month after parting ways with Manchester United following his controversial interview with TalkTV host Piers Morgan.
His future has been subject to speculation since parting ways with the Old Trafford side. However, if reports by Marca are anything to go by, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has sorted his future for the next two and half years and should be lining up with Saudi Arabian side Al-Nassr from January 1st 2023.
Al-Nassr sit second in the Saudi Pro League and will offer him the type of money no other team in Europe will offer him.
He is set to sign a two and half year contract that is surrounded by economic incentives via advertising, which will place the Portuguese as the highest-paid athlete in the world. According to the report, ‘the total number of CR7’s links with Al-Nassr will be close to 200 million euros per season.’
According to Marca, although Ronaldo had wanted to remain in Europe, the incentive offered by Al-Nassr was too lucrative to pass on.
The 37-year-old will become the Saudi image abroad with his arrival considered a matter of state.
The likes of Chelsea and Bayern Munich had been linked to the player, but none can afford the kind of money he will be getting in the Gulf nation.
