Betting Odds for winning Ballon d’Or is currently heavily tilted towards Argentinian and Barcelona star Lionel Messi.
Ballon d’Or 2019 was always reported as three-cornered contest, between Barcelona’s Lionel Messi, Juventus’s Cristiano Ronaldo, and Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk.
The odds were earlier favouring van Dijk, after Liverpool won Champions League and lost Premier League to Manchester City by a single point. Lionel Messi was a close second and Ronaldo was distant third.
Both Messi and Ronaldo missed some match time due to injury. It was believed that should help van Dijk further.
Messi and Argentina bowed out to Brazil in Copa America in unfortunate manner, which resulted in a big controversy and subsequent ban of Lionel Messi. He made an international comeback few days back against Brazil and won it for national side. Though Argentinal drew 2-2 against Uruguay. Messi also won La Liga last season comprehensibly. Once Leo made come back with Barcelona this season, he has been in prolific form and has guided Barcelona to victory single handedly in Champions League as well as La Liga.
For Ronaldo, he won Serie A and couple of trophies with Juventus and won inaugural Nations League with national side. But he had a poor start in this season and has some medical problem.
