Senegalese star Sadio Mane will ‘ruin the best two years of his life as a footballer by signing for Bayern Munich, according to former Liverpool forward Dean Saunders.

The 30-year-old AFCON winner is set to leave Liverpool this summer after agreeing with German champions, Bundesliga, over the week.

According to reports, he will arrive in Germany for a medical on Tuesday ahead of signing a three-year deal.

But former Saunders believes that Mane’s decision to leave Anfield at this time isn’t the best for his career. According to the former Reds forward, the move is ‘not a challenge’ for Mane.

Speaking on talkSPORT, Saunders said:

“Nothing against the club, it’s a great club, but the league is nowhere near a challenge for Mane.

“He’ll get goals. They win 5-0 every week. Only one team can win the league.

“It’s not a challenge. He will get in his armchair, light a cigar up, he’ll play for Bayern in third gear and he’ll coast for two years and ruin the best two years of his life as a footballer.”

Mane has enjoyed a productive time at Anfield, where he won the Premier League and Champions League – among other trophies. He spent six seasons in Merseyside and will now join a team which has lifted the Bundesliga title in each of the last 10 seasons.

“At the end of his career, if he said to you ‘come and look at my trophy cabinet’, the German league winner’s medal will be right at the back,” said Saunders.

“I can’t believe he’s leaving Liverpool. I don’t know how it’s got to this point.

“He’s 30, I think of all his time at the club. The last six months, he’s played the best football. He’s been unstoppable at times.”

Mane scored 120 goals in 269 appearances for Liverpool, forming a formidable front three with Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino along the way.
