Riyad Mahrez-Manchester City

Pep Guardiola and Manchester City will look to pick up their first trophy for this season when they play Tottenham Hotspur in the Carabao Cup final this Sunday.

Stadium: Wembley Stadium

Key Statistics

  • Manchester City have won the last three editions of the Carabao Cup.
  • They have also won four of the last five editions of the Cup.
  • The Sky Blues have won the Cup seven times in their history and can equal Liverpool as the team with the most if they win Tottenham.
  • The Carabao Cup is the last trophy Tottenham have won.
  • They have won the trophy four times and are appearing in their ninth final.

Manchester City

After missing out on their quadruple bid following a loss to Chelsea in the FA Cup, Pep Guardiola is hoping to pick up his first trophy of the season and make it four Carabao Cup wins in four years.

The Catalan became the first manager to win the trophy three years in a row and can match Sir Alex Ferguson, Brian Clough, and Jose Mourinho’s record as one of the managers with the most EFL trophies if he wins on Sunday.

His Man City side remains one of the best teams in the division despite recent poor performances. They head into this tie with two losses from their last five games in all competitions but are easily the favourites in this tie.

However, they will look to win this tie without the contributions of John Stones, who picked up a red card in their win over Aston Villa on Wednesday.

Top-scorer Sergio Aguero and Kevin De Bruyne are also injury absentees, with the pair sitting out because of muscle and ankle injuries, respectively.

Possible line-ups

Ederson; Kyle Walker, Ruben Dias, Aymeric Laporte, Joao Cancelo; Fernandinho, Ilkay Gundogan, Phil Foden; Riyad Mahrez, Ferran Torres, Gabriel Jesus.

Tottenham Hotspur

After years of mediocrity, Tottenham Hotspur are hoping to win their first trophy since 2008 when Juande Ramos led them to a 2-1 win over Chelsea at Wembley.

They will look to do so without the man who led them to the final—Jose Mourinho, who has since been replaced by Ryan Mason on an interim level.

The 29-year-old former Spurs player began his spell as Spurs boss with a hard-fought 2-1 win over Southampton on Wednesday. Second-half goals from Gareth Bale and a penalty from Son Heung-min ensured that he began his coaching career on a winning note after Southampton had taken the lead in the first half.

He will hope to win his first major career trophy this Sunday when he leads his team out against Man City but might be forced to do so without talisman Harry Kane who continues to nurse an ankle injury. Other injury absentees are Ben Davies and Matt Doherty.

Possible line-ups

Hugo Lloris, Serge Aurier, Toby Alderweireld, Eric Dier, Sergio Reguilon; Emile Hojbjerg, Tanguy Ndombele, Lo Celso; Son Heung-min, Gareth Bale, Lucas Moura.
