Barcelona Update: Koeman on title chances, Puig and Alena, Firpo’s criticism, Coutinho injury

Barcelona appointed Ronald Koeman as new manager

Koeman admits winning La Liga is difficult

Barcelona manager Ronald Koeman has admitted that the title chances are difficult following the 1-1 draw against Eibar at home.

The Dutch manager has been off to a lacklustre start in his managerial stint at the Nou Camp, with Barca currently sitting at sixth in the La Liga table.

Riqui Puig and Alena wanted on loan

Barca midfielders Riqui Puig and Carles Alena have been linked with an exit in January, with the former one being wanted by top clubs like Arsenal and Milan on loan.

Alena is also reportedly looking desperate to leave the Catalans as Getafe are said to be interested in taking him on loan.

Both La Masia graduates have been deprived of game time under Ronald Koeman this season, with the Dutch manager preferring the likes of De Jong, Busquets, Pedri and Pjanic.

Firpo hits at Barca’s lacklustre display

Junior Firpo has slammed the Blaugrana for their unimpressive performance against Eibar, stating that his side needs a hundred chances to score a goal.

The Spaniard started for the Catalans in the draw and also provided the assist for Ousmane Dembele’s equaliser.

Coutinho to undergo knee surgery

Philippe Coutinho could be sidelined for several weeks as he is set to undergo knee surgery after tearing his lateral meniscus against Eibar. The Brazilian entered the game in the second half but was soon forced off due to the injury.

“The tests carried out on the first team player Philippe Coutinho have shown that the midfielder has an injury to the lateral meniscus in his left knee. Treatment will necessitate arthroscopic surgery which will take place in the coming days.”
