Want-away Manchester United striker Cristiano Ronaldo reportedly wants to return to his former club, Real Madrid, to deputise for injured Karim Benzema.

The 37-year-old Portugal international has been in the headlines for the past week after accusing his club of betraying him in a controversial tell-tell interview with TalkTV host Piers Morgan last week.

The interview, which has generated much controversy and backlash, landed Ronaldo in hot water. United is now set to sack him after finding that he breached the terms of his contract following the interview.

Ronaldo has offered himself to Real Madrid on a six-month contract with his time at Old Trafford almost over.

According to Sport via Sportsmail, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner wants to return to the Bernabeu as a replacement for the injured Karim Benzema in January.

After picking up a thigh injury, the Frenchman was forced to pull out of France’s World Cup squad. The 2022 Ballon d’Or winner has struggled with niggling injuries this season and might not be fully fit by the time club football resumes. So Ronaldo has made himself available to provide cover for the second half of the season should Madrid need him.

It’s yet to be known if Los Blancos will make a move, given that they have coped considerably well in times when Benzema has been absent this season.

Meanwhile, Ronaldo is away with Portugal at the World Cup and is expected to be involved against Ghana in his side’s World Cup opener on Thursday.
