Atletico Madrid record signing Joao Felix has ruled out leaving the club this summer.

The Portugal international, who was rumoured to be on his way out of Atletico, has insisted he is not going anywhere this summer transfer window and is determined to succeed at the club.

Felix became the most expensive signing in Atletico’s history when he joined the club for an eye-watering £115million in the summer of 2019. But since, his move to Spain has failed to live up to the hype that greeted his transfer.

The former Golden Boy winner was considered one of the biggest rising stars in European football but is yet to light up the Wanda Metropolitano in three seasons.

There have been suggestions that Diego Simeone’s style of football does not suit him and that he will look to move. But those talks have not changed Felix’s mind, and he has made it clear he wants to remain in Simeone’s team.

Speaking to Spanish news outlet Marca recently, Felix said:

“A departure from Atletico is not on the table.

“I’m fine and focused on Atletico. I’m calm about the future, aware of what I can do, and I’m fine with myself.”

Although he has shown great potential and obvious skill, the Portugal international has yet to make the impact his price tag warranted.

In his three seasons in the Spanish capital, he has not reached double figures for goals in La Liga. His most productive season was last season, when he scored eight goals in 24 league matches.

This stands in stark contrast to his last season for Benfica, where he scored 15 league goals in 26 appearances and produced nine assists.

With Luis Suarez leaving Atletico this summer, Felix will be required to step up his game and take a bigger role in scoring goals for the club.
