Barcelona to allow Lionel Messi to decide his future

The Blaugrana skipper has been subject to exit links of late.

Barcelona talisman Lionel Messi might have played his last season as his future at the Nou Camp hangs in the balance.

According to reports, Messi has told the new manager Ronald Koeman that he is uncertain about continuing with Barcelona.

The Argentine was said to have cut short his holiday for a meet up with Koeman, who is eager to persuade the Blugarana skipper to stay next season.

Koeman said, ‘He [Messi] is a Barcelona player. He has another year. I don’t know if I have to convince him to stay.’

Messi has been subject to plenty of exit links lately after Barca endured a horrible season, culminating in the humiliating 8-2 defeat against Bayern Munich in the Champions League..

The 33-year-old is also reported to have become frustrated with the club’s hierarchy and their lack of planning, hence considering his future with his boyhood club.

In contrast, Barca President Josep Maria Bartomeu declared Messi as untouchable and added that the six-time Ballon d’Or winner would retire in the Blaugrana shirt.

The Argentine captain will enter the final season of his current deal and has a reported release clause around 700 million euros.

Manchester City and Inter Milan could be the possible destinations for Messi should he opt to quit Barca.

It will be interesting to see whether Messi would have a change of heart and stay with his long-time club or try to force his way out of the Nou Camp.
