Real Madrid update: Zidane’s position questioned, Eredivisie defender linked

Zinedine Zidane-Real Madrid

Zidane’s future questioned after shock Copa del Rey exit

Real Madrid must be reeling off their shock elimination from the hands of the third-division club Alcoyano in the Copa del Rey round of 32 game.

The defeat, followed by last week’s elimination from the Spanish Super Cup against the eventual winners Athletic Club has put Zinedine Zidane under scrutiny, with his future being questioned.

However, the French manager insisted that he has the backing of his players while taking the sole responsibility on the defeat.

“Things are said when we lose. I’m calm, I think the players wanted to win when they were on the pitch.

“We’ll have to see what will happen in the next few days.

“I think [the players still believe in me]. We tried. We’ve done good things this season, but not recently.

“You have to ask the players if they are getting the message, but I think they are.”

Zidane added,

“I think it’s my responsibility as coach. This is football.

“You have to take your chances. The ball didn’t want to go in and now, well, we’re out.”

Madrid interested in young Eredivisie centre-back

Los Blancos are interested in Feyenoord centre-back Marcos Senesi, who is considered as one of the best defenders in the Dutch league.

The Argentine has grown in stature over the past two seasons and attracted interests from Manchester City and AC Milan.

Madrid are willing to make an offer in the coming months for Senesi, who is currently rated at 35 million euros.
