Sevilla

Despite a change in manager, Sevilla’s fortunes has barely changed after six games.

The hosts have endured one of their worst La Liga campaigns so far and had to sack Julen Lopetegui in September to get themselves back into shape. But the return of Jorge Sampaoli has done litttle to help, as Sevilla have won just one of the six games overseen by the Argentine (D3, L2).

Their last outing was a 1-1 draw with Real Betis in ‘El Gran Derbi’ at the weekend a game that they had to come from behind to draw. Regardless, the result didn’t go far in helping their survival fight, with Sevilla currently sitting in the relegation battle.

They have eleven points after 13 games and are only ahead of 18th-placed Celta Vigo on goal difference. They find themselves embroiled in a relegation battle and face the genuine possibility of spending the extended break in the bottom three.

Sampaoli’s men are winless at home in La Liga this season either (D3, L3), and considering both games against Real Sociedad last season ended goalless, that unwanted winless streak could continue here.

Possible Sevilla starting line-up

Injured: Marcao, Nianzou Kouassi

Suspended: Gonzalo Montiel

Real Sociedad

After a good start to the season, Real Sociedad have not had the best results in recent weeks.

The visitors come into this game on the back of a frustrating, yet credible 1-1 draw against Valencia, a game that saw them reduced to ten men in the 17th minute after Artitz Elustondo was given a straight red card for a bad foul.

The result extended the visitor’s winless run in the league to three games (D1, L2). Regardless of recent results, however, the Basque side still sit very close to the top four even though their current sixth position is their lowest after 13 La Liga matches since 2018/19.

They travel to the Andalusian club on Wednesday looking to win their first game against Sevilla in ten games having not won any of the last nine against their hosts (D4, L5).
