Lionel Messi has reportedly assured Paris Saint Germain that he will extend his stay at the club.

According to reports, the Paris club are keen to te Messi down to a new and extended deal after his impressive showing at the World Cup, where he won both the best payer award and the trophy.

They have met with him and, according to reports by Sportsmail, have extracted a verbal commitment over an extension for at least one more year.

The Argentina attacker has about six months on his current deal at Parc des Princes and could begin speaking to clubs outside France from January 1, 2023. But PSG have moved quickly to present a contract extension and are confident of keeping Messi, although nothing has been signed yet.

Major League Soccer side Inter Miami had made contact with the 35-year-old in the bid to bring him to America. However, they have decided he is not prepared to move to the MLS.

Messi is currently in Buenos Aires, the capital of Argentina, where he and his Argentina teammates arrived to a hero’s welcome. He is currently celebrating Argentina’s World Cup triumph but will be ready to return to Paris at the end of the month and is happy to continue there.

Messi has enjoyed a remarkable season in Paris after struggling last season. Alongside Neymar and Mbappe, the former Barcelona attacker completes one of Europe’s most potent attacking outfits. Between them, the trio have 65 goals and 39 assists in all competitions for club and country.

At Qatar, Messi was involved in ten goals (seven goals and three assists) on his way to becoming the first player in history to win two best player awards at the World Cup.
