Luka Modric laments Real Madrid’s sale of Casemiro

Casemiro-Real Madrid

Real Madrid midfielder Luka Modric has labelled the sale of Brazilian midfield star Casemiro to Manchester United this summer as a ‘shame’.

Modric and Casemiro played together at the Spanish club for over a decade and were part of a Madrid midfield that conquered Europe. The duo won five UEFA Champions Leagues, three La Liga titles and three FIFA Club World Cups together at the club.

But Casemiro’s time at the Santiago Bernabeu will come to an end this week after his sale to Premier League side Manchester United was confirmed on Friday.

Manchester United will pay Real Madrid €60m (£51m) plus up to a further €10m in add-ons for the services of Casemiro.

But the sale of the Brazilian has not gone down well with Modric who has labelled the sale of the 30-year-old Brazilian a shame.

Speaking to the press after Real Madrid’s emphatic 4-1 win over Celta Vigo, Modric said:

“The Casemiro thing is a shame, we have made history with him, he has been a fundamental piece for us and we are going to miss him a lot, as a player and a person.

“This is part of football, I am sad to see him go but we have to keep going without him and each player has to give even more in terms of the things he did.”

However, despite not having Casemiro by his side on Saturday Modric was in inspired form for Real Madrid, scoring a wonderful goal in the win.

Reacting to the midfielder’s performance, manager Carlo Ancelotti labelled Modric as ‘immortal’:

“He is immortal. He is always prepared, he always plays very well. His goal changed the game, until then it was an even and competitive game.”
