Arsenal announced earlier this month that they would be signing up for the European Super League along with five other Premier League clubs.
However, they were forced to reverse their decision after massive protests from their fans.
The withdrawal of the English clubs left the Real Madrid President Florentino Perez severely disappointed, and Arsenal believe that their move could cost them the transfer of Martin Odegaard.
The Norwegian attacking midfielder is currently on loan at Arsenal, and the Gunners were hoping to sign him permanently at the end of this season.
However, it will be interesting to see if the Londoners can convince Perez to sanction the move after the European Super League debacle. Apparently, the Real Madrid president feels betrayed by the English clubs.
Odegaard has made quite an impression since joining Arsenal on loan, and he could prove to be a quality long term signing.
The Real Madrid midfielder needs to play regularly at this stage of his career, and a permanent move to Arsenal would benefit him as well.
The Norwegian is likely to be up for sale this summer. He is not the critical part of Zidane’s first-team plans.
Ideally, Real Madrid should sell him to the club willing to pay the asking price, but it remains to be seen with the Spanish club will hold a grudge against the Premier League clubs for sabotaging the European Super League idea.
Arsenal will certainly be hoping that they can get their man, but the fractured relationship with Perez could complicate matters.
