Chelsea star’s future in doubt after Lampard’s key decision against Liverpool

Stamford Bridge 2 Chelsea - Merson Chelsea will challenge Liverpool for Premier League title

Chelsea defender Antonio Rudiger has been linked with a move away from the club this summer.

The German centre back seems to have fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge and it will be interesting to see if the Blues decide to cash in on him.

Rudiger was left out of the line up against Liverpool yesterday and the likes of Christensen, Tomori and Zouma were given the nod ahead of him.

There is no doubt that the German is a reliable defender and selling him would be a bit surprising especially when Chelsea are vulnerable at the back.

Even if he’s not starting games for Frank Lampard, he could be a very useful squad player and he would add depth and experience to the team.

If Rudiger is made available this summer, there is unlikely to be a shortage of suitors for him. He has shown his quality in the Premier League with Chelsea and there will be several clubs queuing up for his services.

Chelsea looked vulnerable at the back against Brighton and Liverpool  and selling a defender would be a huge mistake from Frank Lampard.

The Blues will be hoping to challenge for the title this season and they simply cannot match up to the likes of Liverpool or City with the defence they have right now. Weakening it further would be a foolish move.

Chelsea have signed Thiago Silva and Ben Chilwell this summer and it will be interesting to see how the two players settle into their new surroundings. If they manage to make an immediate impact, they will certainly improve the Blues a lot.
