Key Statistics

Chelsea have lost each of their last three competitive matches without scoring a single goal.

The Blues have kept just two clean sheets in their last 13 competitive games at Stamford Bridge.

They have scored 17 goals this season, which is the fewest for teams currently in the top ten.

Only two PL sides scored fewer first-half PL goals than Chelsea (six) in this round.

Bournemouth have lost their last three competitive away games.

They are winless in their last five away games, winning just one PL away game this season (D2, L4).

The Cherries are one of just two PL sides yet to secure an away league clean sheet.

They are also the side to have conceded the most PL goals this season (32).

Against no other side has Chelsea’s Raheem Sterling scored more league goals, boasting nine from his last nine H2H appearances.

Head to head

Bournemouth have a decent record against Chelsea in the Premier League. The Cherries have four wins in ten PL meetings with the Blues, losing five and drawing once.

They’re solid at Stamford Bridge, with only Liverpool, and Manchester City have conquered the London side in more PL matches at Stamford Bridge than them (three) since the start of the 2015/16 campaign.

Chelsea

Chelsea and Graham Potter will look to get back to winning ways when they host Bournemouth this Tuesday.

The Blues and their new manager had enjoyed a decent start together,.going nine games without defeat when the former Brighton manager first came to Stamford Bridge.

However, things went downward just before the World Cup break, with Chelsea losing four of their last five competitive games.

And so they start this round of games sitting eighth in the Premier League (PL), having lost each of their last three league matches while scoring just one goal.

They have since followed those losses up with a 1-0 warm-up defeat to Aston Villa, making a new striker one of the priorities for new their technical director Christopher Vivell.

First up for Chelsea, though, will be avoiding a fourth straight PL defeat, which would match their longest top-flight losing streak since March 1998. But given their poor form against Bournemouth, one has to be cautious of backing them to record a straightforward win here.

Possible Chelsea starting line-up

Bournemouth

While their hosts went into the World Cup break in disarray, Bournemouth finished the first part of their PL campaign on a high thanks to an impressive 3-0 home win over Everton.

The win ended a winless run of five PL fixtures. However, their return to competition was soured by a 1-0 League Cup loss at Newcastle last Tuesday.

Manager Gary O’Neil was nonetheless happy with how “competitive” his team looked. He might be quietly confident they can bounce back here as they’ve developed into a bogey team for Chelsea in recent years.

In fact, since the start of the 2015/16 campaign, only Liverpool and Manchester City have conquered the London side in more PL matches at Stamford Bridge than the Cherries (three).

But a solid defensive display is their only hope of securing another positive result in the capital, as before this round the visitors had the unwanted tag of being the side to have conceded the most PL goals this season (32). They are also one of just two PL sides yet to secure an away league clean sheet and will be desperate to get that at Stamford Bridge this Tuesday.

Possible Bournemouth starting line-up

Mark Travers; Adam Smith, Chris Mepham, Marcos Senesi, Jordan Zemura; Marcus Tavernier, Jefferson Lerma, Lewis Cook, Philip Billing; Dominic Solanke, Kieffer Moore.
