Fans troll Erling Haaland after his disappointing Manchester City debut

Manchester City crashed to a 3-1 defeat against Liverpool in the Community Shield on Saturday evening.

Goals from Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez sealed the first bit of silverware for Jurgen Klopp’s side.

All eyes were on the two expensive imports Erling Haaland and Darwin Nunez as the two Premier League heavyweights took to the pitch yesterday. Manchester City fans will be slightly disappointed with the underwhelming performance from their star striker.

Haaland joined Manchester City for a fee of around £51 million earlier this summer and the youngster is widely recognised as one of the best goalscoring talents of his generation. He was expected to make his mark against Liverpool in the Community Shield game but the Norwegian had a forgettable outing and missed a couple of glorious chances as well.

On the other hand, Nunez made an immediate impact for Liverpool when he was brought on as a substitute in the second half.

The Uruguayan international won a penalty for his side which was converted by Mohamed Salah. Furthermore, he finished the game with a diving header in added time to hand the Reds a 3-1 win.

While the Liverpool striker garnered a lot of praise on social media for his instant impact in English football, fans across Twitter trolled the Manchester City striker for his underwhelming performance and his missed chances.

There is no doubt that Haaland is a world-class talent who has a bright future ahead of himself. He is likely to have a successful career with Manchester City as well but it remains to be seen if he can get over this disappointment and adapt to the Premier League quickly now.
