Harry Kane reveals surprise at Mourinho sacking, reflects on their relationship

Harry Kane reveals surprise at Jose Mourinho sacking, reflects on relationship with the Portuguese and his influence.

Jose Mourinho-Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur sacked Jose Mourinho after a poor run of results earlier this month, and striker Harry Kane has now revealed that he was left surprised by the club’s decision.

Apparently, Kane only found out about Mourinho’s sacking minutes before it was announced.

The England international had a great relationship with Jose Mourinho, and the Portuguese managed to get the best out of the striker as well.

Despite the clashes with other Tottenham players like Dele Alli and Harry Winks, Mourinho never had any problems with Harry Kane, and the pair enjoyed a smooth, professional relationship.

“I was surprised (by Mourinho’s sacking) – I’ll be totally honest,” Kane said. “I came in that morning and probably found out 5-10 minutes before it was announced.

“A lot of the focus was on the Carabao Cup final and preparing for that, but, look, it’s football. I’ve been here now where a couple of managers have been sacked and, as a player now, I don’t think you ever expect the boss to be sacked, but it’s part of the game; you have to deal with it.

“I had a great relationship with Jose, I wish him all the best for whatever his next job is, but he knows as we know football can be cut-throat, and we just have to look forward. We have a big final to prepare for now, and we’re looking forward to that.”

While Mourinho’s tactics were considered passive by some sections of the Tottenham fan base, the likes of Kane and Son scored freely under his management, and the Tottenham striker has a great opportunity to win the Golden Boot in the Premier League this season.

Kane managed to bag 26 goals and 16 assists in 40 games under Jose Mourinho this season. He was an exceptional goalscorer before Mourinho arrived, but the Portuguese helped him evolve into an elite creator as well this season.

Currently, Ryan Mason is the interim manager at Tottenham, and he managed to win his first game in charge against Southampton.

It will be interesting to see if he can guide the Londoners to a top-four finish season.
