Ceferin warns about a possible Champions League ban for the clubs adhering to Super League.
UEFA president Aleksander Ceferin has warned the clubs endorsing the European Super League could be banned from playing in the Champions League.
While Premier League’s big six, Atletico Madrid, Inter Milan, have already announced their departures from the controversial European Super League, the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus and AC Milan are understood to haven’t given up on the competition.
Ceferin has warned the four clubs over a possible suspension from the Champions League if they don’t cut ties with the new breakaway league.
“It’s crystal clear that the clubs will have to decide if they are Super League or they are a European club.
“If they say we are a Super League, then they don’t play Champions League, of course … and if they are ready to do that, they can play in their own competition.
“For me, it’s a very different situation between the clubs that admitted their mistake and said, ‘We will leave the project.
“The others mainly know I would say that this project is dead, but they don’t want to believe it, probably.”
Ceferin had previously stated the clubs who initially signed for the Super League could face sanctions no matter whether they backed off or not.
The ESL crumbled in no time due to the overwhelming opposition from the fans, which eventually led eight of the founding members to do nothing but withdraw from the proposed league.
