Liverpool

Liverpool will be looking to build on their impressive win over Tottenham last weekend when they take on Southampton at Anfield.

The Reds put in an impressive first-half display against Antonio Conte’s side, with a first-half brace from Mohamed Salah putting Jurgen Klopp’s team in the driving seat heading into the second half.

A much more improved second-half display from Tottenham caused Jurgen Klopp’s men lots of problems as they were pegged back repeatedly by a barrage of Spurs attacks. Harry Kane finally found a way through the sturdy Liverpool defence in the 70th minute, but the Reds did just enough to see out the three points.

However, the home side were much less impressive in their most recent outing in the EFL Cup against Derby County. Jurgen Klopp’s young side managed to progress to the next round following a penalty shootout win, but the German coach will be keen to see a much more improved showing from them when they welcome the Saints to Anfield.

Liverpool come into this game in eighth place after enduring a poor start to the season. The Reds will be keen to finish off the month in style before the World Cup by taking all three points from a misfiring Saints.

Southampton

Southampton on the other hand have had their worst start to the season under the Ralph Hasenhüttl era and come into this game in 18th place in the EPL table.

The Saints have picked up just three wins after 14 rounds of football, which culminated in the sacking of Ralph Hasenhüttl after their 1-4 loss to Newcastle last weekend.

Miguel Almiron opened the scoring for the Magpies in the first half at Saint Mary’s Stadium, two more goals followed in the second half courtesy of Chris Wood and Joseph Willock before Romain Perraud pulled one back for the Saints in the 89th minute. However, there was not to be any late drama, as Bruno Guimaraes added a fourth for Newcastle in the dying minutes.

New head coach Nathan Jones was in the stands to watch Southampton in action against League one side Sheffield Wednesday last Wednesday, with his new employers progressing on penalties after a 1-1 draw in normal time.

The new coach who has been hired following a good stint at Luton will be keen to get his tenure off to a good start as he starts the rebuilding process at Saint Mary’s Stadium but will face a daunting task coming up against Liverpool at Anfield, and after picking up just one win in their last five games against The Reds, the odds weigh heavily against Southampton and their new
