Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper Mat Ryan has completed a move to Spanish outfit Real Sociedad for a fee of around £1 million.

The Australian keeper has signed a two-year contract with the La Liga club after completing his medical with them.

Ryan has played in the Spanish league before with Valencia, and he will be delighted with a return to Spain this summer.

According to the player’s former teammate Victor Vazquez, the player always wanted to return to Spain because he loves the country’s culture and food.

The Australian international struggled to hold down a regular starting berth for Brighton last year, and he needed to leave the Premier League club in order to play more often.

The player was sent out on loan at Arsenal last season, but he managed only three league starts for the Gunners.

The Australian was recently linked with a move to Scottish giants Celtic as well.

It will be interesting to see if he can adapt quickly and hold down a regular starting berth at Real Sociedad next season.

The 29-year-old cannot afford to sit on the bench every week at this stage of his career, and he will be desperate to prove, but he can be the number one shot-stopper at the Spanish club.

If Ryan manages to make an immediate impact at Real Sociedad, the £1 million transfer fee could look like a major bargain for the Basque club.
