Man City targetted Barcelona prodigy after failing to poach Cristiano Ronaldo

Ansu Fati inspires Barcelona to a 4-0 win over Villarreal

After Cristiano Ronaldo‘s decision to leave Juventus went live earlier this summer, a hoard of clubs started questioning his whereabouts in order to table a transfer bid. Of all interested parties, Manchester City emerged as the leading team to secure the Portuguese superstar’s signature. However, in the final hour, negotiations went sour, and Ronaldo chose to stage an astonishing homecoming to former club Manchester United.

Having failed to land either Cristiano Ronaldo or Harry Kane, the Sky Blues had reportedly named another superstar to quench their thrust of an elite forward. According to Spanish media outlet Mundo Deportivo, Pep Guardiola allegedly contacted Jorge Mendes to enquire about Barcelona‘s brightest prospect Ansu Fati.

The City officials reportedly tried to impede contractual arrangements between Barcelona and their star player, whose current contract is set to expire next summer. While the Catalan giants perceive Fati as the successor to Lionel Messi‘s throne at Camp Nou, Manchester City still eyed him to lead Pep Guardiola’s attack-line for years to come.

Despite City’s apparent interest, Fati stays put in Barcelona for the time being and is expected to sign an extension with his current side. To the fans’ relief, the 18-year-old wonderkid decided to continue with his boyhood club, following lengthy discussions with super-agent Mendes. Fati’s commitment and brilliance were recently awarded, with Barcelona allotting the No.10 jersey to the Spaniard.

As per the current understanding of events, Manchester City are set to continue in their pursuit of Tottenham’s star player Harry Kane, who is desperate to leave the Lilywhites.
