Leicester City have confirmed that star striker and Manchester United target Jamie Vardy has signed a new contract with the club.
The 35-year-old striker was one of the strikers reportedly placed on the Red Devils’ transfer list, but he has decided to commit his immediate future to Leicester till June 2025.
Vardy has already scored 164 goals in 387 appearances since signing from non-league side Fleetwood Town for a bargain £1million in 2012. The striker who celebrated 10 years with the club in May has been one of the most important figures at the club since their promotion to the top flight.
Speaking after signing the new deal, the England international told LCFC.com: “I’m obviously over the moon.
“Once I heard it was something the Club was looking at, there was only one thing that was going to happen, and I was going to sign it. The decision was easy.
“I’ve been here long enough now that I feel like part of the furniture. I think you can see with the way we’re trying to play, the way the Club’s wanting to go, that it’s going to be onwards and upwards.
“Now it’s all about this season and finishing as high as we can. My legs are still feeling great, so I’ll carry that on helping the Club as much as I can, whether that’s scoring or assisting, that’s what I’m here to do.”
Vardy is the highest earner at the King Power Stadium with his £140,000 a week salary, the biggest sum anyone collects at the club. In ten years at the club, he has won the Premier League, FA Cup, Community Shield and Championship titles with Leicester.
Last season was a difficult one for Vardy, who only made 25 appearances in the league due to niggling injuries. However, he still finished the campaign as the Foxes’ top Premier League scorer with 15 goals and two assists to prove to the Leicester board he was well worthy of a new deal.
