The French manager is a top candidate to replace under-fire Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

Zinedine Zidane has emerged as a top candidate to replace Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at Manchester United.

Solskjaer’s future at Old Trafford has been plunged into doubt after the Red Devils’ uncharacteristic start to this season, currently 6th in the Premier League table.

Having managed only one victory in the last six league games, United are considering replacements for the Norwegian manager.

While many names have been linked with Old Trafford, Zidane is understandably a favourite to become the new manager of the Red Devils.

According to a report from the Mirror, Man Utd are trying to use Cristiano Ronaldo as bait to lure the French manager, who has been without a job since leaving Real Madrid in the summer.

Ronaldo and Raphael Varane had previously worked with Zidane at Bernabeu, and the Red Devils believe that the Portuguese superstar can help them persuade the French gaffer to take up the job at Old Trafford.

Zidane would also be happy to reunite with Ronaldo and Varane, with whom he won three consecutive Champions League titles at Madrid.

Ronaldo had previously praised Zidane as the best man-manager and as were the thoughts of Varane.

The 36-year-old said: “The confidence that a player needs doesn’t only come from himself but also from the players around him and the coach. You need to feel like you are an important part of the group and Zidane made me feel special.

“He helped me a lot. I already had a lot of respect for him but working with him made me admire him more. “That’s because of what he’s like as a person, how he talks, how he led the team and how he treated me.”

Varane’s comments on his compatriot: “My first reaction is that I feel proud for the last ten years. I have learned a lot alongside him.He is a coach that has a human side.”

Zidane is also said to be having the idea of taking over at France national team after next year’s World Cup.

Besides the French manager, Man Utd are considering Mauricio Pochettino and Brendan Rodgers for the managerial job.
