Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has asked his former club to go all out to sign Tottenham Hotspur defender Harry Kane.

United are reportedly keen on bringing in a forward this January, having lost Cristiano Ronaldo last month. They are currently in talks with Netherlands international Wout Weghorst, with reports linking him to a six-month loan deal at Old Trafford.

The loan deal is to allow the Red Devils to chase Kane in the next transfer window, which Ferdinand wants United to do by all means.

Speaking on his Vibe with Five YouTube channel, the former defender said that United should break the bank to sign England No 9 Kane because he guarantees 20 to 25 goals per season.

“Get Harry Kane in,” he said.

“Spurs fans, I’m sorry. You’re not going to win anything. He’s not going to win anything at Spurs. They’re in a bit of turmoil at the minute.

“Man United, if you’re going to go in the summer: let’s go and find a number nine for the next three or four years to hang our hat on, to get 20-25 goals a season every year. Where are you going?

“You’re going to have to pay big money for Harry Kane. But at least you know you’re getting a man who gets 20-25 goals a season. So Harry Kane can’t be going anywhere but Man United.”

Kane is widely considered one of the best strikers in the world and is still thought to have several years at the top level despite his age. The 29-year-old has 15 goals in 18 Premier League appearances this season.

Meanwhile, United January target Weghorst only scored twice in 20 appearances for Burnley as they got relegated last season. However, he has rediscovered his scoring boots in Turkey with eight goals in 16 games in all competitions for Turkish side Besiktas, where he is currently playing on loan.
