Thomas Tuchel is keen to strengthen Chelsea’s back-line.

Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is said to be keen on reinforcing the defence and has identified two targets from Bundesliga.

According to the reports, the German gaffer wants to raid his homeland for Leipzig centre-back Dayot Upamecano and Bayern Munich’s Niklas Sule.

Upamecano is also on the radar of Europe’s top clubs and has a reported release clause worth £39m. Leipzig are expecting that the French youngster would likely leave in the summer.

Tuchel would face stern competition from Bayern Munich, who have been intense in his pursuit in recent weeks, with the CEO Rummenigge also confirming the interest on the deadline day.

‘There are two quite attractive competitors besides Bayern Munich. You now have to wait and see how things develop,’ Rummenigge told Sky Sports.

‘The fact is that the player is interesting, of course. It is also a fact that we will lose at least David Alaba at this position. Whether we will have other departures at the position, I can not seriously predict at this point.’

Perhaps, Bavarians centre-back Niklas Sule is said to be another target for Tuchel as the German manager eyes a defensive overhaul in the summer, having failed to sign a single player in the January transfer window.

Sule, 25, is also another exciting defender due to his towering height and physical presence and it makes him well suited for the Premier League.

Tuchel’s reign at Stamford Bridge is off and running with an impressive win against Burnley and now the German is tasked with a mammoth task of leading the Blues back to the top four of the table.
