West Ham United have begun arrangements to bring Jesse Lingard from Manchester United on a free transfer this summer.
According to a report in the Daily Mail, the Hammers have made the England international an offer as they look to secure the free agent ahead of growing competition.
The 29-year-old England midfielder is reportedly expected to be courted by more clubs over the coming weeks once budgets become clearer. But having spent a successful stint at West Ham last season, David Moyes has made an early move to impress upon that he is wanted back at the London Stadium.
Lingard had a good loan spell at West Ham during the 2020-21 season, scoring nine goals and producing five assists in just 16 games over four months. His form in London was so good that it put the midfielder on the brink of England’s squad for the 2020 European Championship.
But after returning to Manchester, things have not gone as smoothly for Lingard, who opted against a permanent move to the London Stadium despite his popularity in east London.
The 29-year-old made just two Premier League starts throughout the campaign but appears to have played his final game for the club, with his contract expiring in June.
Although a host of other clubs are interested in his signature, West Ham are reportedly in front of the queue. However, the East London side will hope that missing out on a place in the Europa League thanks to a 3-1 loss to Brighton will not scupper the deal for the attacker who is also attracting interest from Juventus and PSG.
