Juventus crushed to a 1-0 defeat against Empoli in the Serie A earlier tonight and Max Allegri will be thoroughly disappointed with the performance of his players.

The home side were firm favourites heading into this contest and they were expected to pick up a comfortable win.

Here at Anytime football, we look at the three major talking points from tonight’s contest.

Ineffective midfield performances

Juventus are in desperate need of midfield reinforcements and it was evident tonight as the likes of Rabiot, Bentancur and McKennie dropped below-par performances for the Italian giants at the centre of the park.

The home side looked vulnerable defensively and their midfield struggled to protect the centre backs. Furthermore, the Allegri’s midfield trio failed to provide the necessary creative spark and imagination to create chances for the likes of Federico Chiesa and Paulo Dybala.

Stand out performance from Vicario

The Empoli goalkeeper was outstanding tonight and he was one of the main reasons why the away side managed to win with a clean sheet against the Turin giants in their own backyard.

Vicario produced several quality saves to grind out a priceless win for his side.

Lack of balance in the attack for Juventus

Max Allegri opted to start Federico Chiesa and Paulo Dybala as his two strikers upfront and the two players struggled to get going.

Dybala is more of a creative forward and he thrives next to a poacher. Instead, he was playing alongside a natural winger and the two players struggled to strike up an effective partnership.

After the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo, the Italian giants will have to bring in a recognized goal scorer if they want to do well in the league this season.
