Duvan Zapata’s strike in the first half proved decisive as Juventus failed to find any inspiration at Allianz Stadium. Gasperini’s men recorded their first away win against the Old Lady in Serie A in more than three decades.
The defeat also marked the Old Lady’s second in the space of less than a week following their 4-0 set-back to Chelsea in the Champions League.
In the aftermath, the Bianconeri fans vented their frustrations on Social media, with several of them wanting Allegri to be sacked.
Allegri returned to Turin last summer after the Old Lady sacked Andrea Pirlo following a disappointing 2020/21 season.
However, things haven’t panned out in his way for the experienced Italian manager, with Juve currently eighth in the table.
The Old Lady have suffered five defeats and three defeats after 14 games this season and they have managed only six wins.
Their unbeaten run in the Champions League was also ended by the defending champions Chelsea earlier this week.
The Bianconeri were thought to be back on track after back to back victories against Fiorentina and Lazio but they are now back to square one.
The chances of retaining the Scudetto are diminishing with each passing week and Allegri has a mountainous task ahead of him.
The 54-year-old also said post the Atalanta defeat that the Old Lady are far from being considered as the title contenders.
Allegri said (h/t Football Italia): “I think we must be realistic. If we are in this position after 14 rounds, it means this is what we are worth right now. There’s a long way to go, but in terms of performance, I only saw us get it really wrong against Verona, Sassuolo and Empoli.
“Once we are realistic, we can take the pressure off and work better in a calmer environment. All we can do is try to get the best out of ourselves.
“We are Juventus and people seem to think that means we must automatically be Scudetto favourites. What we need to do is keep working, try to calm down and score some more goals. At this moment we are struggling to score and in my view it’s because we have lost that sense of calm and confidence.
“There’s no point thinking of ifs and buts. We have to start from scratch, put everything behind us and be prepared to fight it out on level terms with Salernitana, then add our quality on top.”
